Akamai Technologies has released its “State of the Internet” report for the first quarter of 2010. Among other data, Akamai reveals which states have the slowest (and fastest) internet connection speeds in the United States.

Check out the “bottom” ten states with the slowest internet connections in the US, as ranked by Akamai.


10. OHIO: 4.4% of Ohioans have an Internet connection below 256 Kbps.


9. TEXAS: 5.3% of Texas residents have an Internet connection below 256 Kbps.


8. IOWA: 5.8% of Iowans have an Internet connection below 256 Kbps.


7. ILLINOIS: 6.1% of the population of Illinois has an Internet connection below 256 Kbps.


6. MISSOURI: 6.2% of Missourians have a connection below 256 Kbps.


5. WASHINGTON: 6.6% of Washingtonians have a connection below 256 Kbps.


4. GEORGIA: 6.7% of Georgia’s Internet users have a connection that’s below 256 Kbps.


3. DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA: 7.4% of D.C.’s Internet users experience connections that are below 256 Kbps.


2. NEW JERSEY: 7.9% of the Internet connections are below 256 Kbps.


1. ALASKA: In Alaska, 8% of the Internet connections are below 256 Kbps.
