In response to the current tech market, in which you essentially have to update all your gear every six months if you want to stay up-to-date, Dutch designer Dave Hakkens has developed a concept phone with upgradable and detachable parts. Named the Phoneblok, the device would also save on waste, with only small “bloks” being replaced each time you’re due for an upgrade. What each individual part is responsible for is shown on the back, with components such as mobile antennas, batteries, processors, cameras and displays pointed out through a series of simple engraved graphics. This is currently just a concept, but would you swap your current smartphone for something like this if it came to market?
